We have a new addition to the Hawaii Doggie Bakery Ohana — a covey of quails! Yes you heard that right, for about 6 months now, we have been the proud owners of 10 Japanese Coturnix Quails. It’s been quite the journey learning about caring for a new type of animal. As you can imagine, their needs are quite different from dogs. 😂
We originally got our quails because we wanted to have fresh eggs every morning, and they did not disappoint. Their eggs are delicious and actually creamier than chicken eggs because their yolk to white ratio is much higher. It didn’t take us long to start sharing our eggs with our own dogs who are loving their fresh quail eggs and now we’d love to share them with you as well!
Quail eggs are an excellent source of protein, and they are high in fatty acids, iron and vitamins B12 and A which is great for a the coat and skin!
Our Quail Egg Tarts are made with a fresh quail egg baked into our biscuit dough crust (whole wheat flour, cornmeal & oil). We recommend they be consumed the day you pick them up, but they can last a few days in the fridge or freezer.
Lasts 1-2 days in the fridge, may be frozen for 1 week.
